Why Choose Red Maple for Roof Moss Removal & Treatment?

Moss is one of the most common roof problems we see in the Lower Mainland, especially on north-facing slopes and under trees in Coquitlam, Port Moody and the North Shore. It holds water against the shingles, lifts their edges and lets water work underneath. Removing it the wrong way does nearly as much damage as leaving it.

Pressure washing strips the protective granules off asphalt shingles and can drive water under them. We remove moss by hand and with low-pressure tools, clear it from gutters and valleys, then apply a treatment to slow it coming back.

How We Work

01

Assessment

We check how deep the moss is rooted and whether shingles underneath are damaged, and photograph it before we start.

02

Shingle-Safe Removal

Moss is removed by hand and with low-pressure methods, working down the slope so shingles are not lifted.

03

Treatment

A moss treatment is applied to slow regrowth. We follow the product label and protect plants and surfaces below.

04

Gutters & Prevention Plan

Gutters and valleys are cleared of moss and debris, and we recommend how often to re-treat for your roof.

Safe Roof Moss Removal (Why We Never Pressure Wash)

High-pressure water blasts granules off asphalt shingles and can void manufacturer warranties. On older roofs it can also push water under the shingles. Low-pressure, hand-based removal takes longer but keeps the roof intact.

Asphalt Shingle Moss Removal

Asphalt shingles are the most common roof we treat. If moss has been there for years, some shingles may already be cupped or cracked. We replace those individually so the roof keeps shedding water properly.

Roof Cleaning and Moss Prevention

Trimming overhanging branches, keeping gutters clear and a regular treatment schedule are the most effective ways to keep moss from coming back. We will tell you which of these will make the biggest difference on your roof.

Our honest advice

If moss has damaged the roof beyond a clean-up, we will say so and show you photos, rather than charging for a treatment that will not help.

FAQ

Roof Moss Removal & Treatment: Frequently Asked Questions

Is moss bad for my roof?+
Yes. Moss holds moisture against the shingles, lifts their edges and lets water get underneath. Left alone, it shortens the life of the roof and can lead to leaks.
Do you pressure wash roofs to remove moss?+
No. High-pressure washing strips granules and damages shingles. We remove moss by hand with low-pressure methods and then apply a treatment that slows regrowth.
When is the best time for roof moss removal?+
Moss can be removed most of the year, but late summer and early fall are ideal because the roof is drier and the treatment has time to work before the wet season.
How do I know whether my roof needs a minor repair or a complete replacement?+
If your roof is under 15 years old and the damage is localized (such as a few blown-off shingles or damaged pipe boots), a targeted repair is usually sufficient. However, if your roof is over 20 years old, experiencing widespread granule loss, curling across multiple slopes, or widespread leaks, replacement is more economical in the long run. We offer honest, no-pressure inspections to give you the exact truth.
Which areas of the Lower Mainland do you service?+
We service the entire Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley: Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Burnaby, Surrey, New Westminster, Richmond, Delta, Langley, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and White Rock.
Do you require a deposit before starting work?+
No. Red Maple Roofing requires zero deposit upfront. You pay only when the work is complete and you are fully satisfied. This is our commitment to honest, quality craftsmanship.
What warranties do you offer?+
We provide a 15-year written workmanship guarantee on all installations, plus manufacturer material warranties of up to 50 years depending on the product selected. We are fully licensed, WorkSafeBC registered, and carry $2,000,000 commercial liability insurance.
